Why I Started Lewes Lenny - The Walking Football Guru

Why I Started Lewes Lenny – The Walking Football Guru

If you’d told me a few years ago that I’d be spending my days helping people find walking football clubs, sharing injury recovery tips, and connecting strangers who end up as lifelong mates, I probably would have laughed. But here we are — and I wouldn’t change a thing.

So, why did I set up Lewes Lenny? Simple: I saw something too good to keep to myself.

It All Started With a Kickabout

I first tried walking football as a bit of a joke — “football for people who don’t run? Sounds like my kind of pace!” But the first session changed everything.
Within minutes I was grinning like a kid again. The slower pace meant nobody was left behind, the tackles were gentler, and the laughs were louder. I realised this wasn’t just about the game — it was about people.

The Problem I Wanted to Fix

The more I played, the more I realised something: lots of people would love walking football, but they simply didn’t know it existed.
Some thought football was only for the super-fit or the young. Others were recovering from injuries and didn’t think they’d ever step on a pitch again. Many just didn’t know where to start.

And when they did go looking? Finding reliable info about local clubs, friendly sessions, or the right kit was harder than it should be. That’s where Lenny comes in.

The Lewes Lenny Mission

I set up Lewes Lenny to be the friendly face of walking football — the bloke who says, “Come on, give it a go. If you’re old enough, you’re good enough!”

Through Lewes Lenny, I:

Why Lewes?

Lewes isn’t just where we play — it’s the heart of what we do. Our club is part of a caring, close-knit community. We’ve got Sunday and Monday sessions that end with a pint, Wednesday night games for the night owls, and social events that keep the laughs going long after the final whistle.

The Best Part

Every time someone says, “I haven’t played in 20 years… and now I’m hooked again”, it’s a win.
Every time a player tells me they’ve made new friends, got fitter, or simply found a reason to get out of the house on a Sunday — that’s why I do this.

Your Invitation

So here it is: if you’re curious, give it a try. No pressure, no judgement, no marathon sprints — just a warm welcome, a ball at your feet, and a good laugh waiting for you.

Come join us at Lewes Mixed Walking Football Club.
If you’re old enough, you’re good enough.
