The Brilliant Benefits of Walking Football

The Brilliant Benefits of Walking Football

Alright, let’s get this out there straight away — walking football isn’t just “normal football but slower.”
It’s a game in its own right, and trust me, it packs a whole lot of benefits, both on and off the pitch. Whether you’re brand new to the sport, returning after a break, or just curious, here’s why I think you should give it a go.

1. It’s Proper Football — Without the Sprints

No running, no lung-busting chases down the wing, no feeling like your heart’s about to jump out of your chest.
But the skills? They’re still there — passing, positioning, teamwork, scoring a cracker from just outside the D… it’s all in the mix.
You still get the buzz of the game, just at a pace that lets everyone stay involved.

2. It’s Great for Your Health

You’ll be surprised at how much you move, even at walking pace. Walking football can help improve:

Plus, it gets you out of the house, moving, and feeling better in yourself.

3. It’s Easy on the Body

We all know that joints, muscles, and old injuries can be less forgiving than they used to be. Walking football keeps things low-impact, so your knees, hips, and ankles aren’t taking a battering.
That means more time enjoying the game and less time icing your leg on the sofa.

4. The Social Side is Second to None

Here’s the magic — walking football isn’t just about football. It’s about friendship.
You meet people from all walks of life. You share laughs, swap stories, and often end up heading for a cuppa or a pint after the game.
Some of my best moments in walking football have been off the pitch, chatting and laughing with the team.

5. It’s for Everyone

All genders, all ages, all abilities — everyone’s welcome.
We’ve had complete beginners playing alongside seasoned pros.
It’s all about inclusion. No one gets left behind, and everyone leaves with a smile.

So Why Not Give It a Try?

If you’ve been thinking about getting fitter, meeting new people, or just finding something fun to do with your time — walking football could be the answer.
There’s a place for you on the pitch, whether you’re 30, 50, 70, or somewhere in between.

If you’re in Lewes, we’d love to see you at Lewes Mixed Walking Football Club. And if you’re further afield, I can help you find a club near you.

If you’re old enough, you’re good enough. Come have a kickabout and see for yourself.
